this has been in the back of my head since like 2005.
ever since the 6 MAN CONTRA-ERA...i cant remember who in the group brought this up, but it changed how i felt about hip-hop.
back then ppl were so 1 sided and narrow-minded. but you have to break down the title "HIP-HOP ARTIST" to define your position in the culture.
i can go so much in depth with that topic right there but i wanna focus on sumthin more specific.
the the title itself.
the title hip-hop artist means that you can create and give a new meaning to websters dictionary.
you have the ability to take a simple word and CREATE a SONG from it. to take a complex emotion and CREATE a BEAT from it. hip-hop is the sound of the music. its the head nodding from the lyrics and the beat. its the way the words touches your heart with a personal relation to the song or beat.
You can give a deeper meaning to LIFE by your choice of words, how you say them, what beat you use!
A HIP-HOP artist can PAINT, DRAW, & SKETCH a mental Picture. its their choice of colors, their choice to stay inside the lines, their choice to go outside the lines.
so now if i were to give you a BEAT, and it was honestly sum bullshit, you cant tell me that you cant spit over that...I thought you were a HIP-HOP ARTIST??
I thought you could CREATE over anything. youre supposed to possess that ability!
i thought you COULD stay on topic and THINK up new CONCEPTS...
the beat doesnt make the song, the ARTIST does.
the lyrics are supposed to be whats listened for...not the drums, thats just adding on to the feeling of the song.
if you were to take a beat away from a Lil' Wayne song, and just keep the vocals, would you still think he was HOT?? (im not taking any personal shots @ wayne, jus using him as an example)
the pen is you brush...the paper is your canvas...tell me a story full of color in one picture!
dont trace over a slick rick concept and try to get me to buy it.
seriously ppl, a HIP-HOP ARTIST is supposed to be a modern day RENAISSANCE man/woman. theyre supposed to be street poets.
and when another emcees tell you they cant spit to a certain beat, punch that nigguh in his/ her neck!
Whatever i put on is what we CREATE to!
